Let me introduce myself - my name is Judy. I've always dabbled with photography throughout my life. Living in northwest New Jersey, I have access to some of the most historic and beautiful places in the United States. Around 10 years ago, while walking my son's puppy, I started noticing mushrooms - the colors, shapes, and textures really caught my eye, and I would photograph them anytime I was on a trail or in the woods. From mushrooms, I began including the scenery and diverse wildlife found in Sussex and Warren Counties.
My corner of NJ has a rich agricultural history and although the type of farming has changed, it is still home to many farms. I started photographing the farms that remain as well as those that are now dormant. Which is how my interest in abandoned buildings was born.
Being a bit of a history nerd, the Old Mine Road and Tocks Island became more important to my photography. For the past 4 years or so, I've been slowly documenting the properties that remain from the failed Tocks Island Dam Project - you can find a number of resources for a more in depth look into the project and the impact on local communities online. The Old Mine Road is not my only obsession, as you can see from my collections. So, grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and take a look at the world through my lens!
Enjoy!
